MODA Role
Creative Direction · Experiential Design · Spatial Concept
(Developed within an agency-produced context)
Context
Zappos is widely recognized not just for retail, but for its distinctive company culture—one rooted in openness, playfulness, and human connection.
The project required an experiential environment that could translate those values into physical space—creating a setting that felt welcoming, participatory, and culturally aligned rather than conventionally branded.
Scope & Contribution
MODA contributed to the creative direction and experiential design for the Zappos activation, developed within a producing agency framework.
The work focused on:
-
Shaping the overall experiential concept and tone
-
Designing spatial moments that encouraged interaction and movement
-
Translating Zappos’ cultural values into architectural and experiential cues
-
Supporting design development to ensure the environment felt approachable, energetic, and cohesive
-
Collaborating closely with production teams to maintain fidelity from concept to execution
The experience was conceived to feel informal and engaging—prioritizing people over spectacle.
Design Intent
The environment emphasized approachability, color, and social energy.
Rather than presenting the brand as a static display, the design invited participation—using spatial organization, scale, and flow to encourage discovery and interaction.
The goal was to create a space that reflected Zappos’ personality: open, optimistic, and human.
Outcome
The activation delivered a lively, people-driven brand environment—supporting engagement, conversation, and shared experience.
By aligning design intent with cultural values, the project demonstrated how experiential environments can communicate brand identity through behavior and atmosphere, not just graphics.
Attribution
This project was developed in collaboration with Allied Experiential. MODA contributed to creative direction and experiential design within that collaboration.
